Salut! Comment êtes-vous tous? Vous serez heureux de savoir que nous avons maintenant Voila en français. Whoops, that’s as far as I can go with my smattering of French, guess I should have been more regular to my French classes (Sniff :-( ). Well to my non-french friends, the first few lines says that we now have a French version of Voila. Yay, I know :-) . Here is what the UI of the French version of Voila looks like when you first launch it:

The French version of Voila has been a long time dream of ours and a long time gripe of our French users. And this dream is now a reality, thanks to our many friends who helped us make this come true. This version is out now bundled along with the English version, with a few minor bug fixes. To know more about Voila and how to use it, new users can click here. Do remember that although the application is in French, the support will be in English. This version is for you my dear French users, do use it and let us know if you have any suggestions.

Merci et paix :)

I know things have been pretty quiet from Voila. Well that’s because we have been busy working on our new entertainment based iPhone/iPod touch app, Wisen Up. Wisen Up is a fun app which is going to keep you hooked. It’s going to hit the App Store soon, so be sure to get your copy. But enough of that now. Although we haven’t spoken to you in a while regarding Voila, reviewers have been hard at it; reviewing it, and loving every bit of it. Let’s see what Michael Shaw of MaUsE has to say about Voila:

My impression is that the program is hugely rewarding and entertaining as well as an effective tool for capturing and working with images. I suggest you have a look at the Global Delight’s website and download a 30-day demo of Voila. Find out what the fuss is about. Macworld likes Voila. Apple likes Voila. I like it and you will, too. No matter what else you do with your Mac, the ability to record what is on your Desktop is as basic to the Mac OS as copy / paste. This program makes the most out of screen capture and it will definitely make a difference to how you harvest images off your Desktop and what you can do with them.

We also have Bob from Mac 101. According to him,

There are many ways to do screen capture on the Mac, ranging from OS X’s built-in functionality to utilities, such as Skitch. But, if you need a tool that allows you to capture, edit and organize screen captures then Voila from Global Delight is an application you should look at. If you do a lot of screen captures, edit those captures using PhotoShop or other editing applications, then Voila is definitely something to consider to help streamline and optimize your workflow process.

You can read the full review here.

So get going, grab your copy of Voila now and unleash your creativity!

Peace! :-)

Uploading to FTP with Voila

July 27th, 2009

Uploading work via FTP is an important aspect of work for many. Thus we decided to integrate it with Voila. However, some of our users got back to us as they were unsure how to upload an image via FTP to a specific folder other than the root folder. So we thought why not write about it to make matters simple.

As you know, when you have an image ready to be uploaded, you have to first configure your FTP account by entering details such as the Account name, Server URL, User name and Password. Once done, the images will be uploaded to the root folder whenever you select the publish via FTP option.

Uploading via FTP to the root folder

But what if you want to upload an image to a specific folder in the FTP? Mention the specific folder name in the Server URL field in Voila Preferences. Add a forward slash (/) after the Server URL and mention the name of the folder (/Folder name); the same is shown below:

Uploading via FTP to a specific folder

If you want to change the folder, you just have to change the folder name, and the images will be uploaded to the folder mentioned. Now ain’t that easy?

You will get to see some great uploading options in our upcoming release, making uploading and publishing with Voila a mere breeze.

In the name of Charity

Charity is a virtue of the heart. And you find many people today who wholeheartedly want to help others without any other ulterior motive. Before you wonder what we are yapping about, let us tell you what we mean. We came across this fund raising campaign, The Pan-Mass Challenge, started by Seth Dillingham. The objective is to raise funds for The Jimmy Fund, a cancer care and treatment charity. Seth raises awareness for this cause by biking across the state of Massachusetts. He intends to raise $10,000 for this cause.

So the question arises where do we fit in all this. The funds for this charity are raised by selling Mac software in bundles, donated by interested developers. And we at Global Delight are proud to say that we have donated licenses of Voila for this cause. May we take this opportunity to request our fellow Mac software developers out there to be a part of this cause. This is also a chance for all you users to contribute your mite to charity. Go ahead, build your bundle and get that satisfaction of having changed a life.

On similar lines we have the MacWeed Creative Bundle. The bundle offers 13 great Mac applications, including yours truly, intended for personal and professional use. Out of the 13 bundled apps, 7 are locked, which shall be unlocked after reaching a certain number of sales.

Here again the spotlight is not on the bundle in itself, but on the cause. Part of the proceeds of the sales generated from this bundle will go the Italian Red Cross (CRI), in an effort to help the thousands of people displaced by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that hit the Abruzzo region of Italy a few weeks ago. The Italian Red Cross is an International society providing health care in peace and war and is part of the International Movement of the Red Cross. Buying this bundle will help millions displaced in the earthquake. When we were approached by MacWeed to include Voila in their bundle, we were at first skeptical ‘cos this was their first bundle. But when we learnt about their cause we willingly agreed to be a part of it. So go ahead and buy this bundle, because for charity, every little helps.

And do remember to check out the Voila-Tips and Tricks posted earlier and keep watching this space for more exciting news in the next three weeks.

Peace!smile

Everybody loves Voila screen capture

It is said that quality in a product is not what you put in it, it is what the customer gets out of it. And no one can refute that. It is always interesting to know about our customers, learn how they use our product and what features they like in it the best. Apart from it being an interesting read, it helps us in understanding our customers and improving those features. So, featured in this post are comments from some users of Voila screen capture tool.

First is from Jose Hernandez, a teacher. Jose and students make use of Voila extensively. Read on:

I am a teacher. Voila helps me bring hands-on visual experiences to my students. For example, we were studying about the importance of balanced ecosystems and Voila helped me bring a Constructivist approach to this unit.

Students needed to research, create a graphic organizer, and present the specific aspects that maintained balance in the ecosystem they had chosen. Voila allowed them to capture screens and windows of animals and habitats as well as, write notes on the screenshots themselves. This program helped them concentrate on the mental aspect of their research and not on the boring task of copying and pasting, switching programs, and trying to remember where they got their information from.

Voila is a good example of how technology can be used in the classroom as a learning tool and not just for the sake of blindly pushing technology on kids’ learning.

The next one is from Barry Ludlow. Check what Barry has to say about Voila:

it many times a day.
I am a paper work misfit so this keeps me  tidy and l can locate
stuff  easily.
It is also very green as now l don’t have the need to print all of my
records, the savings on ink has already been paid
for voila………l hope you will keep progressing this invaluable
resource
Well done,

Fariborz feels this about Voila:

This application is GOLD - really GOLD! If you need to take snapshots and add comments or modify them to your liking then look no further. Version 2 is a great enhancement over its already venerable version 1. I highly recommend it to all serious Mac users.

Kate says:

I like that I can write on screen and web captures. I like that I can add special effects on it, which is what I think gives it its edge over other screen capturing software. I also like how you can take a screen capture of any size you want… even if it’s not of a regular form. I’m currently a student, studying graphic design and webdesign, hoping to start my own business in a couple of years. This could come in useful.

Sure brightens up your day when you know what you do is appreciated and liked by your customers. But that doesn’t mean we rest on our laurels;  we work harder to improve the product.  Future posts will cover more such comments from our users. Until then, Peace! smile
