Voila turns 1! Check out the birthday goodies!

January 6th, 2010

Happy Birthday Voila

Oh wow! One already? That’s the thought running across our minds here in Global Delight. Doesn’t seem too long ago when we first released Voila. As we celebrate the 1st Birthday of Voila, let us walk down memory lane and reminisce Voila in its formative days, the present and see what it has in store for the future.

The Beginning:

The team wanted to create something that would fit in just right for the Mac users. The trick was in understanding what the Mac users enjoyed doing the most and needed the most on their Mac. Several brainstorming sessions later, the idea of a Screen Capture tool coupled with the ability to Annotate and Share was hit upon. Voila started showing its charm even in its Beta stage. It was featured by Apple as a ‘Featured 3rd Party Download’ and also a ‘Staff Pick’.  It was also nominated under the ‘Best Consumer Software‘ category for Macworld Awards 2009. With a lot of feedback from reviewers and users, we churned out new improved versions of Voila.

The Present:

At present we have Voila v2.5. It is Snow Leopard-compatible and has some great features such as Copy-Paste, Copy last capture to Clipboard, Spotlight, Outline Border and other minor bug fixes. It has found favor among many Mac users and Switchers with its multiple Capturing, Annotating, Organizing and Sharing options and ease of use.  As we are celebrating the occasion of Voila turning 1, we have decided to slash the price from $39.95 to $29.95 for a Single User license effective from today onwards, as a gift from us to you. Students and Teachers can avail the Educational license for just $19.95.  You can also check out the other bundle packs that we have available at attractive prices from our Store.

The Future:

We have planned for a major revamp of Voila in the coming version. You will find most sought after features such as copying an area of the image, eraser, using contextual menus, ability to adjust shadows for the image, new sharing methods, improvements in capturing and more features. We have also included something really exciting in this version, the few features mentioned are only the tip of the Iceberg. So you can expect more from the new version and something BIG!

You can keep guessing what the other new features are going to be, no prizes for guessing though. ;) The new version will be out soon. To know more about Voila and its features you can watch the Overview video or check out its features.

Before I sign out, Happy Birthday Voila! May we see more great updates! :)

Voila v2.5- Snow Leopard compatible version out now

November 18th, 2009

Voila v2.5

A few posts ago I spoke of our Thanksgiving gift to all of you i.e., Voila v2.5, although then, I didn’t elaborate on what’s new in it. I guess now it’s time to unravel the gift and let you know what is in store for you. The new version of Voila, apart from being Snow Leopard compatible, has additional features that will make your screen capturing experience on Voila more pleasant.

Isn’t Copy-Paste ever so convenient? Just copy from here and paste it over there. Guess what, you can now do the same with Voila. Just copy an image from the capture tray or multiple images from the image browser to your Word Document, PowerPoint, Text Edit, Keynote, Pages, Apple Mail, Entourage and more. The copy-paste feature is not restricted to images alone;  you can also do it with annotations. You can also copy-paste similar annotations across images within Voila, thus saving you tons of time.

Copy to Clipboard is an important feature in the new version. Here, the last captured image on Voila gets copied to the clipboard. Now all you have to do is paste to your documents. This saves you from a lot of hassles that you would otherwise face. In Voila, just do a Cmd+V and the image gets pasted from the Clipboard onto your documents. Do note, however, that you must enable  ’Copy last capture to Clipboard’ in the Voila Preferences. Voila can also now capture windows in their active state using the global keyboard shortcuts or from the status menu. Thus you can get screenshots of windows exactly as it would appear on your Mac screen, thereby making your presentation, manuals or any other document all the more wholesome and presentable.

One of my favorite features is the Spotlight. This feature lets you draw attention to a specific portion on your image. The rest of the portion is dimmed, the intensity of which can be adjusted as per the need. You have the option of applying multiple spotlights at a time and in multiple shapes. It helps a lot in making a specific area stand out from the rest.

We have added one more Edge under the Effects Tab. It’s a simple Outline border. I know most of you wanted this particular border, and here it is. It’s a simple border that you can apply to your images, giving it a distinct and neat look, clearly demarcating the image from rest of the text, be it in your documents, manuals or others.

With the new version the color profile of the captured image will be the same as the system profile or the one set by you. Thus while printing an image you will obtain it as it appears and like you want it. This would be of great assistance to artists.

Apart from these great feature additions we also have fixed some issues which most of you had pointed out in the version 2.1 which had resulted due to the 10.5.8 update. You can now drag and drop  images from Voila to the Dock items, Finder, Tweetie, Word Document, Apple Mail and to other compatible applications.  The arrow heads and line endings have been smoothened. There are a lot more improvements which I shall let you discover on your own. I have told you the most important ones already. You can read more about them from here.

Voila v2.5 is certainly an improvement from the previous version and this was only possible with your support. We thank all our customers who helped in Beta testing this version, providing valuable suggestions and feedback. Do try Voila v2.5 now, let us know what you think and do give us your feedback. Also help us spread the word by using the ‘Tell a Friend’ option within Voila.

We have more surprises in store with regard to Voila. Keep watching this space.

Snow Leopard compatible Voila, coming on 18th November

November 4th, 2009

Thanksgiving Feast

With Thanksgiving arriving soon, we are sure most of you are looking forward to some great family bonding time. And not to forget; yummy Turkey, stuffing, Pumpkin pies and more. :) The holiday spirit is so much in the air that we couldn’t help ourselves but get drawn into it. Yes, we have a Thanksgiving Day gift for all of you. Read on to know more about it.

In our previous post we had mentioned that our developers were working on a Snow Leopard compatible Voila. The good news is that Snow Leopard compatible Voila v2.5 is ready and should be out on 18th November just in time for Thanksgiving. If you are wondering why the delay, we thought rather than giving you just Snow Leopard compatibility in the new update, why not add a few more features. Thus this update will include some exciting feature additions along with some much awaited bug fixes. We would come up with a detailed post covering the improvements in v2.5 just before the release.

Customer interaction means a lot to us. It helps us, help you. Many of our friends have helped us a lot by reporting bugs, providing feedback and suggestions, for Voila v2.1. We would be getting in touch with those of you who have reported some specific issues in v2.1 to ensure most of them have been fixed. You could also get in touch with us, just drop in a mail.

We have some more surprises planned up ahead. Keep watching this space and do send me a pie or two. ;)

MacNN reviews Voila Mac screen capture tool

October 1st, 2009

Whoa! The developers at Global Delight are really hard at it, trying to fix the compatibility issues of Voila with Snow Leopard. We ran a post earlier regarding the issues and spoke at length regarding them. Well the good news is that you will be able to have a Snow Leopard compatible Voila in a few weeks time. In the meantime Patrick Clark from MacNN gave Voila a try and loved it. Lets see what MacNN has to tell about Voila:

Voila is also easy to use, with the controls clearly marked and intuitive. Its superior image editing tools and more precise parameter controls put it easily over the top.

You can read the entire review here. MacNN has given Voila a rating of 4.5 out of 5. While we are working on the Snow Leopard compatibility bit, we also have some great feature additions and a few minor bug fixes coming up soon in the next update. We are sure all our existing and new users will love the new feature additions.

We have  a new overview video of Voila. In this slightly over 3 minutes video we have tried covering what Voila can do for someone who is looking for an advanced-yet-simple-to-use Mac screen capture tool. You can watch it here.

Keep watching this space for some exciting news.

Until then, Peace :)
