Happy Holidays – Amazing Apps, Amazing Discounts!

December 16th, 2011

global-delight-annual-sales

So we are there! People far away from their families and loved ones might have planned to visit back home; friends and families who could not meet for a long time might have planned to rejoice; likewise, each one of us might have planned something special. The next two weeks are going to be a very special period to relax, rejoice and party with the near and dear ones to make as many memorable moments that last with us till end of time. And while we get ready to welcome the New Year, many of us might plan some great things to be done in the New Year, which would leave a mark in our and others’ lives.

Year 2011 has been great for us and we have many great things to remember. Boom volume booster for Mac received a grand welcome in the late January at the Macworld Expo and went on to bag ‘Macworld Best of Show 2011’ and notebooks.com’s ‘Best of Macworld Expo 2011’. Later in mid June, Boom made it to the Mac App Store and reached the 13th spot in the Top Paid section.

Our iPhone camera app, Camera Plus Pro, received some great updates throughout the first half of the year with some unique photo filters, distortion effects, video controls and more. In late September, the v4.0 got a UI face-lift, Live Filters, smooth video zoom, performance boost and much more. There are some great things planned for this app and we hope to keep you ahead in the iPhone photography arena in the coming days.

The powerful Voila screen-capture tool for Mac was featured during Apple’s Mac App Store launch earlier in January and once again it was ready when Apple launched their new Mac OS X Lion in June. Voila screen-capture tool was a ‘Staff Pick’ and was also featured in Apple’s ‘Macs In Class’ promotion. This tool is now used by hundreds of thousands every day and we would improve this to the next level in the coming year.

Our free iPhone camera app, Camera Plus, launched way back in October 2009 has now grown significantly with millions of users around the globe. There’s something in the pipeline and we hope to surprise you in the next year. Photo Delight for iPad, the color-splashing app with smart-touch technique, is enjoyed by many of you. We receive many colorized photos and some of them are breathtaking! Hats off to your imagination! You’d see some nice updates coming your way some time soon.

This was all possible because “You”, our dear customers. You kept supporting us by purchasing the apps, trying them, and providing useful feedback and suggestions. We take this opportunity to thank each one of you for constantly pushing us to deliver the best each time! As a thank-you note, we are providing some amazing discounts for our apps till 2nd Jan 2012. You can buy or gift from our online store, Mac App Store, or iTunes Store, or spread the word. As usual, do drop us a line if you have any questions or need any help regarding our apps.

All of us here at Global Delight are wishing you Happy Holidays and A Very Happy New Year too! Have fun and take care.

Camera Plus Pro v4.1 Makes A Great Camera App On iOS 5

October 28th, 2011

Camera Plus Pro Logo

We have been testing Camera Plus Pro v4.0 on the iOS 5 Beta builds and observed that everything works great as it is. There were some quirks on the video recording part with live filters and in the creation of time-lapse videos, which we had fixed during the development of v4.0. So, Camera Plus Pro v4.0 was unofficially compatible with iOS 5 when we had released it on September 30th. We could not however make it official because of iOS Terms. :)

When Apple actually released the iOS 5 GM to the public this October 12th one issue was uncovered. The photos on an iPhone 4 was capturing at 640×480 resolution even though you had set it to capture at the highest resolution! We quickly fixed this and tested the app on all the devices (iPhone 3GS, 4, iPod touch) and submitted an update to Apple for the approval.

And Apple approved the new version in time for Halloween so that you can capture some great photos and record videos with live filters with this camera app!

Another great feature in Camera Plus Pro is the smooth video zoom. When we tested Camera Plus Pro on the iOS 5 beta, we recorded videos with great fps, which made the videos look like they were shot in HD! The fps is close to 28 on iPhone 4 and iPod touch! Even with live filters, the performance is great and should inspire you to create some great looking videos and share them.

Some of you reported an issue with video trimming in iOS 4.3. When you wanted to trim a video, the video trimming timeline bar was hidden below the top menu bar making it impossible for you to trim them. Thanks to Apple, they have fixed this issue in iOS 5 and you can now trim the videos on your iPhone and iPod touch again.

Thanks for sending all your great suggestions and feedback for Camera Plus Pro. Keep sending them our way and do not hesitate to give a 5 star rating and reviews on the App Store ;) As a Hallloween special, we are running the sale for some more time and you can buy Camera Plus Pro at just $1.99 (33% off).

We are now testing Camera Plus Pro on the iPhone 4S – yes, we got it a little late – and all seems to be working fine. We are working on a few new features and one of them is very exciting. When we had added that feature in Camera Plus way back in September 2009, Apple loved it, and so did you! We are checking if we can get it into one of the updates planned for Camera Plus Pro. We’ll keep you posted about its progress. Once again, Happy Halloween and enjoy the long weekend!

Rolling Shutter in iPhone

August 18th, 2011

cpp_icon_57x57

Why do you see the individual blades of an airplane even though it is rotating at a very high speed? It is because iPhone’s camera lens is based on ‘rolling shutter’.

Rolling shutter (also known as line scan) is a method of image acquisition in which each frame is recorded not from a snapshot of a single point in time, but rather by scanning across the frame either vertically or horizontally. In other words, not all parts of the image are recorded at exactly the same time, even though the whole frame is displayed at the same time during playback. (Source: Wikipedia)

Thus, the resulting effect is that you can see the individual blades of the airplane when you record using devices using rolling shutter.

Blades of an Airplane (Recorded using Camera Plus Pro)

There isn’t any physical shutter in an iPhone or similar recording devices. It is just called that as a convention (something similar to a movie camera having a shutter moving across frames). In digital video, the rolling shutter effect is the result of the way a CMOS sensor is read. CMOS sensor doesn’t captures the entire frame at one go but instead information is read line by line of each frame, i.e. top to bottom. The video frame rate (fps) also depends on the quality of recording and also if the device is handheld.

CMOS sensors capable of higher frame rates than 30 frames per second (and not just through repeating frames) will exhibit less rolling shutter effect because their sensors have been designed to read faster. This limitation is removed in high-end DSLR cameras.

2010 has been a great year for Global Delight. We saw Camera Plus and Camera Plus Pro evolve from their cocoon and now flying high among the photography apps. Camera Plus, our free photography application has reached more than 16.5 Million downloads and similarly Camera Plus Pro, paid version of it with additional features has crossed 275,000 downloads from the time of its release. Camera Plus Pro also bagged the third spot under the best photography app at the 2009 Best App Ever Awards. Both the apps also saw some major exciting updates throughout the year and the latest update is a cherry on the cake. Camera Plus Pro went for a major overhaul and got noticed by those shutterbugs out there.

Voila, the screen-capturing tool for your Mac, never fails to amaze our dedicated users and sometimes even us with the amount of work it can do. The app has received amazing reviews from the reviewers as well as our users and the constant suggestions and feedbacks have helped us make it all the more better. Voila is going to complete its second birthday very soon and you might have some surprises in store for you.

Amidst these old experienced fellas, Photo Delight, a selective colorization app, made its entry in later half of 2010. Although it is the youngest, it has been received very well by the users and also got featured in the New and Noteworthy section at various App Stores. It also went on to be included in the top nominees of the 2010 Best App Ever Awards under the Best Artistic and Best Photography categories.

Now as we have set our feet in this New Year, we have a number of exciting ventures planned for you. We would be rolling them out bit by bit and all you have to do is be a bit more proactive on our blogs, Twitter and Facebook pages so you don’t miss out on the upcoming excitement.

And lastly, a huge thanks to all of you who made 2010 a fun filled year and we hope this year would be even better. Keep commenting and suggesting, it helps us give you the best. And all those who are still thinking about whether to be a part of us, we extend our hand to you for a new beginning. Wishing you all a wonderful and thrilling 2011. Ciao! :)
