My colleagues at the Macworld l iWorld Expo can’t stop raving about how well Game your Video was received by everyone. The Macworld and Apple team appreciated the app too! Whoever came by just loved the power, the interface and the simplicity of the app. We also had a bunch of kids who had a ball with the audio effects! This is something we have been always going after with Game your Video. Simple, yet powerful and fun to use with great results.

The past year, 2011 i.e., has been the most exciting year for us here at Global Delight. We started off the year with a bang with the release of Boom at the Macworld Expo 2011, which went on to win the Best of Show Award along with other laurels. The rest of the year saw other great developments, such as the release of Boom on the Mac App Store, the revamp of Camera Plus Pro with the introduction of Live Photo and Video Filters and the Voila update. We have spoken about this in more detail, in our previous post entitled, “Happy Holidays - Amazing Apps, Amazing Discounts!“

As we all know, current generation of iPod touch and iPhone 3GS doesn’t ship with a hardware flash. Which means, there’s not an ‘as-is’ method to take some of the beautiful photos under low-light conditions. Really? WAIT! You won’t miss that anymore! Because Camera Plus Pro, on its 2nd Anniversary today, is introducing Live ‘Soft Flash’ for iPod touch and iPhone 3GS.

All the iPod touch and iPhone 3GS users running iOS 4.1 or later, can tap on the flash icon from the app’s screen and see the Live Preview of the scene on your screen. If you like what you see, simply snap it. If you want, you could still use the exposure control and white balance lock to perfect everything before snapping that photo. The best part is, on your iPod touch, you could apply ‘Soft Flash’ on the front-facing camera as well! ☺ Checkout the video below.

The live ‘Soft Flash’ would work in the regular photo capture mode and can be used in conjunction with the Big Button (the screen turns out to be shutter), Countdown Timer and Anti-Shake for blur-free photos. It’s shy of burst, live filter and video recording mode for now.

That’s the big feature, but there’s more for all the iPhone and iPod touch users. You now have the aspect-ratio-based cropping options. Crop your photos at 1:1, 2:3, 3:2 or 4:3 sizes. If you find these options are limiting in retaining/removing certain portion of the photo, you can always use the free-form crop.

We added the feature to import multiple photos from your Camera Roll to Camera Plus Pro. So, you can now easily beautify your other photos in the Camera Roll with fast and live editing, applying filters and comparing with the original photos instantly. Of course, sharing is just a touch away.

From the very first version of the app, you have had the option to add photo notes and copyright to your photos. The font size has been slightly increased to make it more legible but without obstructing the content of the photo.

So we are there! People far away from their families and loved ones might have planned to visit back home; friends and families who could not meet for a long time might have planned to rejoice; likewise, each one of us might have planned something special. The next two weeks are going to be a very special period to relax, rejoice and party with the near and dear ones to make as many memorable moments that last with us till end of time. And while we get ready to welcome the New Year, many of us might plan some great things to be done in the New Year, which would leave a mark in our and others’ lives.

Year 2011 has been great for us and we have many great things to remember. Boom volume booster for Mac received a grand welcome in the late January at the Macworld Expo and went on to bag ‘Macworld Best of Show 2011’ and notebooks.com’s ‘Best of Macworld Expo 2011’. Later in mid June, Boom made it to the Mac App Store and reached the 13th spot in the Top Paid section.

Our iPhone camera app, Camera Plus Pro, received some great updates throughout the first half of the year with some unique photo filters, distortion effects, video controls and more. In late September, the v4.0 got a UI face-lift, Live Filters, smooth video zoom, performance boost and much more. There are some great things planned for this app and we hope to keep you ahead in the iPhone photography arena in the coming days.

The powerful Voila screen-capture tool for Mac was featured during Apple’s Mac App Store launch earlier in January and once again it was ready when Apple launched their new Mac OS X Lion in June. Voila screen-capture tool was a ‘Staff Pick’ and was also featured in Apple’s ‘Macs In Class’ promotion. This tool is now used by hundreds of thousands every day and we would improve this to the next level in the coming year.

Our free iPhone camera app, Camera Plus, launched way back in October 2009 has now grown significantly with millions of users around the globe. We are back with new updates and some cool newly added features for Camera Plus Pro v4.2 this time around. After rectifying few minor issues in v4.1, you can now capture full-resolution photos on your iPhone 4 devices with iOS 5. The previous update in v4.1.1 resolved the issue of video recording in the iPhone 3G, giving users complete visual clarity in their photos.

And for all the Siri-loving iPhone 4S users, this update is almost all about you Photos captured with live filters have always been saved on a lower resolution on your iPhone 4S. However, with Camera Plus Pro v4.2, iPhone 4S users now have the privilege of shooting photos with live filters and saving them with the full resolution of the photos. Which means, all your photos will be in 3264×2448 pixels of awesomeness.

The Exif info now correctly shows iPhone 4S as the device model when you have shot that photo. Moreover, you can now retouch your photos by editing them in real time at the actual resolution of the photos. Use pinch-zoom to check if the effects have been applied correctly on all parts of the photo.

With this update, we have fixed the bug related to timer and burst mode. Instead of only 1 of the 3 options (timer, burst, anti-shake) to be turned on at a time, now you can apply both the timer and burst and use them at the same time. So time it right and get a host of pictures with a simple touch. Of course this update is for any version of the iPhone and iPod touch.

Sometimes when you take photos, the ambience lighting may not be good. Even though you use the Exposure control, it may not give the best results. Yet, in a hurry, you might simply lock the focus and snap the photo because Camera Plus Pro anyways gives you very good photo retouching options to make your photos look good. In order to get good clarity out of those photos, you can use the digital soft-flash. The soft-flash has been around since v1.0 of Camera Plus Pro. There are 3 levels; tap each of them to check which brings out the best clarity out of your photos. The 3rd level soft-flash has been reworked so that now it would show the best clarity out of the photos while not distorting the other brighter areas of the photo. This again works great on all the iPhone and iPod touch devices running Camera Plus Pro.

So have a ton of fun with the live filters and get the best quality photos on your iPhone and iPod. Oh yes! CPU Utilization

In this version, we have primarily gone into bug-fix mode and have improved the existing features. To begin with, the CPU usage, which was considerably reduced in one of our previous updates but was still bothering most of our users, has been improved. Some of you asked us, “Why does Boom continue to utilize the CPU even when I’m not using it?”. So to handle this and also to not hamper the performance of Boom, we have enabled the CPU utilization to drop to zero when there is no sound input for a continuous 5 seconds. This ensures that Boom now does not use any additional CPU when it is not in use.

Audio Sync

We have also had a few users who reported that while watching a video for a long duration, the audio would often go off-sync. This was a really difficult issue for us to troubleshoot since we were not able to regenerate this issue on our test systems. However with the help of a few users, we were able to get to the root cause of this and have now fixed it in this version.

Another minor issue where the System-audio would go mute when the system is re-started or re-logged into has also been fixed.

The Future

With this version, we have gone Intel Mac exclusive, as we found most of our users are using an Intel System, and we don’t want to be restricted with legacy codes that would prevent us from giving the best to our users. Voila v3.1.1 is finally out and is available on the Mac App Store or the Online Store for just $29.99! This is a free update to the existing users of Voila v3.x. This update not only features a few cool additions that will make your Voila experience even more fantastic, but also a fix, although temporary, to the 3ivx issue.

In one of our previous posts entitled, The Lion Video-recording Crash and the Fix , we spoke at length of how the legacy code, 3ivxVideoCodec present in QuickTime has a few compatibility issues with Mac OS X Lion, causing applications that use the QuickTime framework for screen-recording, to crash. In this update, while we still wait the creators of the 3ivx to provide a fix, we have gone ahead and provided an Error message that comes up when you launch the app. This message will inform you about the presence of the 3ivx component and how to move it for uninterrupted screen-recording on your Mac OS Lion with Voila.

New Email Clients:

In this update we have also provided support to more email clients such as Outlook, Sparrow and Sparrow Lite along with Apple Mail and Entourage. Thus you can now enjoy the flexibility of sharing your Voila captures directly from within the app, through an email client of your choice. You can set it in the Preferences tab of the app. With this, Voila allows you to create, enhance, organize and share your entire work without even leaving the app!

Copy URL:

Another interesting addition and the most requested feature, was the ability to obtain the URL after a file has been uploaded via FTP, SFTP, Flickr or YouTube. Earlier, the URL of only the last uploaded file was copied to the Clipboard, which would be lost the minute some other matter was placed there. Thus now Voila saves the URL for each file uploaded on the FTP/SFTP server, Flickr or YouTube in the Info panel of the app. Thus you can copy the URL and paste/embed it in other places.

With this update we have been able to take Voila a step ahead as a one-stop shop for all your screen capturing, editing and sharing needs. Most of the updates that we provide is a result of users’ feedback and this has helped us in improving the app, so that we can make it more useful to you.

On the Mac App Store:

As we have pointed it out earlier, the Mac App Store is a great platform for listing of apps both for the developers as well as the users. There are usually two thinking processes that happen here. You decide to buy an app either because you have been looking for something like it or you heard/read about it from somewhere. In both the cases, the user reviews on the Mac App Store always adds on to the credibility of the app. But there the review process is not two-way. Most of the developers have the same grouch. There is absolutely no opportunity to clarify a particular user’s question or complaint on the Mac App Store! Most of these complaints could arise from either a genuine issue or the user has not understood the functionality of the app. In both cases, users give it a low rating without a proper explanation. This adversely affects the ranking of an otherwise top-rated app, which could have been a life-saving solution for a genuine user.

Since we developers cannot ask for more details about your query on the Mac App Store, you could try approaching us directly. The contact information is provided on the Mac App Store for you to get in touch with us. Most of us also have an active forum and a support contact. So do make use of these tools.

This reminds me of the often used Spider-Man quote, “With Great Power comes Great Responsibility.” Use it wisely.

We have been testing Camera Plus Pro v4.0 on the iOS 5 Beta builds and observed that everything works great as it is. There were some quirks on the video recording part with live filters and in the creation of time-lapse videos, which we had fixed during the development of v4.0. So, Camera Plus Pro v4.0 was unofficially compatible with iOS 5 when we had released it on September 30th. We could not however make it official because of iOS Terms.

When Apple actually released the iOS 5 GM to the public this October 12th one issue was uncovered. The photos on an iPhone 4 was capturing at 640×480 resolution even though you had set it to capture at the highest resolution! We quickly fixed this and tested the app on all the devices (iPhone 3GS, 4, iPod touch) and submitted an update to Apple for the approval.

And Apple approved the new version in time for Halloween so that you can capture some great photos and record videos with live filters with this camera app!

Another great feature in Camera Plus Pro is the smooth video zoom. When we tested Camera Plus Pro on the iOS 5 beta, we recorded videos with great fps, which made the videos look like they were shot in HD! The fps is close to 28 on iPhone 4 and iPod touch! Even with live filters, the performance is great and should inspire you to create some great looking videos and share them.

Some of you reported an issue with video trimming in iOS 4.3. When you wanted to trim a video, the video trimming timeline bar was hidden below the top menu bar making it impossible for you to trim them. Thanks to Apple, they have fixed this issue in iOS 5 and you can now trim the videos on your iPhone and iPod touch again.

We are now testing Camera Plus Pro on the iPhone 4S – yes, we got it a little late – and all seems to be working fine. We are working on a few new features and one of them is very exciting. Live filters are the latest buzz in the world of iPhoneography. What’s new and different with these live filters, is the big question on everyone’s mind. This time around, the options available with live filters are pretty amazing! With my short stint with iPhones and iPhoneography, I’ve found a whole new world with live filters that I find totally cool and amazing with Camera Plus Pro v4.0.

In most camera apps (or even the previous version of Camera Plus Pro for that matter), your options for adding filters would be limited to taking a photo and then applying a filter to it. So that would mean waiting till the end to see how your final photo would turn out. The option of live filters bridges this big gap and allows you to have a look at the filter set and choose the filter you want to apply even before taking the shot. And if you want to change filters, all you would have to do is flip through with the 2-finger swipe to change to the next filter until you find what you’re looking for. The best part is that this option is available for both photos and videos on your iPhone with version 4.0 of Camera Plus Pro. So in essence, you can decide what your final photo or video will look like even before you hit the capture button.

What’s also interesting is the additional filter set with a number of new filters added that lets you further add filters to your photos. So, can you apply a filter on a photo taken with a live filter? Abso-freaking-lutely! This is a whole new dimension in photo editing and definitely a must watch-out for all the editing buffs out there. This camera app also gives you full control in the editing phase, to decide how your photo will look in the end. The live controls on the editing tools including hue, saturation, brightness, sharpness and contrast further let you play around until you decide what is just right for the photo.
