App Update: Boom Volume Booster And Voila Screen Capture

March 11th, 2013

Today we are releasing updates to Boom – the volume booster and Mac equalizer app, and Voila – the Mac screen capture and recording tool. The updates mainly improve the apps’ quality by way of defect fixes and some improvements in the features. Let’s go through the changes we have made to these Mac apps.

Boom volume booster and Mac equalizer app: Some Boom customers running Mac OS10.7.1 to 10.7.3 experienced some missing UI elements. A quick fix was to update their OS to 10.7.4 or to the latest version and this would have automatically fixed it for them. However, we have now fixed this in Boom v1.7 for those who are yet to update their Mac OS X to the latest version. In addition to this, all Boom lovers would get the following 6 new system-wide Mac equalizers to enjoy with your music/video play:
1. Acoustics
2. Classical
3. Electronic
4. Jazz
5. Pop
6. Rock

Voila Mac screen capture app: This all-in-one screen capture and screen recording app for Mac now sports some new options and defect fixes. Below you’ll find few highlights and you can visit the Voila v3.4 Release Notes for complete change log:

1. Voila Helper: The menu bar icon now enables you to screen-capture or screen-record even after you have quit Voila from your Dock. Voila Helper is an option for you to turn on or off from the Preferences; however, the first time you quit Voila it puts up a prompt on whether to run the app in the background via a menu bar icon presence.

Voila Mac screen capture preferencesPlease note, Voila Helper will run only when you have quit the app while it was running from Dock. Quitting Voila app from menu bar icon will not enable Voila Helper to run and you need to re-launch Voila to perform your screen capture or for other image editing needs.

2. Pause/Resume option during screen recording: This is a new addition to the screen recording feature and this option is provided in the status menu. When you start a screen recording, the ‘Pause Recording’ option gets enabled. You can pause the recording based on your needs and the pause recording option changes its status to ‘Resume Recording’. Any action that you perform on your screen when you have paused the recording will not be recorded till you continue recording by clicking the ‘Resume Recording’ option.

3. Voila audio recording component: This is a separate audio recording component that needs to be downloaded and installed on your system. It is a new component that we have built to improve Voila’s audio recording capabilities from the system. When you start a new video recording, you will be prompted to download and install this Voila audio component. Once installed, ‘VoilaDevice’ would get listed under the Sound Output devices in System Preferences. This is a one-time action and you can un-install this audio component from the Voila Preferences –> Video Recording tab.

4. Other improvements and fixes: Tag auto-completion feature helps to find better matches of tags by providing a drop-down list that was added earlier to other image or video files. Postbox mail client support has been added for you to mail the images/videos directly from the Voila app (go to Voila Preferences–>Export–>Default mailing client drop-down to choose this option). We have fixed defects related to error while saving video with USB device selected as audio input, and also the YouTube login authentication problem is now solved.

These are free updates for all the existing customers. Mac App Store users will get a notification badge on the Mac App Store icon. Hit the ‘Updates’ section on the Mac App Store and download the app updates for free. Non Mac App Store version users would get an update notification prompt (if not, click the ‘Check for Updates’ option manually) to download the free update.

We thank our wonderful customers who provide their support, feedback, suggestions to improve our Mac apps and we don’t forget our Beta users as well. Hope you like the new updates and if you are a first-time visitor to the Global Delight site, you can try Boom volume booster and Voila Mac screen capture for free.

Voila Mac screen capture icon

Yes, you read it right! Black Friday occurred a little early at Global Delight! Voila screen capture, which is usually $29.99, is available for just $4.99 on the Mac App Store starting October 19th, throughout this month. It’s a 83% off and we’re running a sale of Voila screen capture only on the Mac App Store.

If you are wondering why this sale is only on the Mac App Store: firstly, Voila is one of the apps in the Mad App Deals one-day promotion, and secondly and most importantly, there are many of you – our esteemed Voila customers – wanted to switch from the site version to the Mac App Store version, as you are maintaining most of your apps through Mac App Store. And thus we thought of extending this sale throughout October for you to take notice and switch to the Mac App Store version.

If you are an existing Voila customer running the site version, upon downloading Voila from the Mac App Store there will be a new Voila folder created in the Application folder. Inside this Voila folder you’ll have the Mac App Store version. Once you launch App Store version of Voila, it will access the default Pictures Library to load contents that you may have created using the site version. Check if all looks fine and then you are safe to delete the site version.

For all others looking to get a screen capture tool for your Mac, this is an amazing deal; just get Voila from the Mac App Store for $4.99 before the sale ends. There’s a free trial if you would like to try before you buy.

Boom and Voila – Compatible with OS X Mountain Lion

July 25th, 2012

The rumor mills would need to find a new story, as Apple’s next-gen Mac OS 10.8 aka ‘OS X Mountain Lion’ is releasing today, July 25. The “world’s most advanced desktop operating system” as touted on its website, can be downloaded from the Mac App Store.

Apple is releasing newer newer OSs or newer/improved devices much faster than a developer could finish coding their update for the OS X Lion or retina-fying the app/website! It’s a challenge to keep up to Apple’s pace and we have thousands of users asking if Boom Mac volume booster and Voila screen capture-cum-screen recorder are ready for the OS X Mountain Lion.

And the good news is, ‘yes’! The brilliant team here at Global Delight pulled up their socks and started working every single day to make Boom and Voila compatible with the OS X Mountain Lion. Thanks to some of our beta users (mostly Developers, as only they have early access to the Developer Builds of Mountain Lion) who helped with testing and reporting bugs/issues. The newer versions of Boom and Voila would be available to all the non-Mac App Store users, so look out for the update message. The Mac App Store users of Boom and Voila might have to wait for few more days, as the App Store team is yet to review and approve our submission. We wanted to release both the App Store and non-App store versions simultaneously but we hope the waiting may not be more than a week or two for the App Store users.

In any case, the updates are free to all the existing users of Boom v1.x and Voila v3.x respectively. The apps are not yet retina-fied but we’ve it in our to-do list, stay tuned. As usual, feel free to report feedback, feature suggestions or issues on our forum or email them.

If you have not yet tried Boom – a system-wide Mac volume booster and equalizer – download the free 7-day trial. If you like it, you will not un-install it, you can buy a copy from our Online Store or from the Mac App Store.

And, if you are looking for a screen capturing, screen recording or an advanced image-editing tool, download Voila and try free for 15 days. You can buy this useful tool from our Online Store or from the Mac App Store.

Tip- How to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion?: If you bought your Mac prior to June 11, 2012, then head straight to Mac App Store and hit the download button (paid upgrade) next to the Mountain Lion listing. And if you got your new Mac on or after June 11, 2012, you can upgrade your OS X for free with Apple’s OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date Program.

Meet our Voila User: Josué Menjivar

March 31st, 2012

Josue Menjivar

We always love knowing more about our Voila users and the creative ways in which they use it. We reached out to one of them, Josué Menjivar, an Illustrator, cartoonist and author and he was happy to tell us more about himself and how he uses Voila.

Global Delight: Hi Josué, tell us something about yourself.

Josué Menjivar: I run a small illustration/comics business called Fresh Brewed Illustration, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I write and draw small press comics and enjoy illustration. I also teach at a local college.

GD: How did you come across the app?

JM: As a teacher for a publishing program, I believe that pictures are worth a thousand words. I needed something better than Apple’s default screen capture feature. I found out about Voila through MacUpdate and have enjoyed it since. I started using Voila with version 2. I am also a fan of Global Delight’s Boom application. It really makes a difference when I’m listening to music while drawing.

GD: What features come in handy for you?

JM: Voila has a gorgeous GUI and it’s simple to use. It has a lot of features that really enhance screenshots. I use it to capture screen grabs for tutorials and lectures for my Magazine Production class I teach at a local college. I also use the excellent video feature to record some lessons when I use a specific graphics application.

I also use Voila to capture the progress of a certain illustration I’m working on. It’s fun to see a drawing start as pencils and then take screen grabs of the colouring process all the way to the final result.

GD: What is a typical day in the life of Josué like with Voila?

JM: I usually take a lot of screenshots so I can share the process with people who go to my blog. Here is something I’m working on and a finished page. I also made the hard drive icons.
Josue voila_1
I send a lot of screenshots to my friends to show them what I’m working on.

Here is a screenshot of my Voila window:

GD: Thank you Josué, for sharing your story with us and our users.

JM: Thank you for giving me this opportunity.

About Voila:

Voila is a comprehensive Screen Capturing app that lets you capture still shots and videos of your desktop. Not just that, you can also edit and annotate your still shots with Callouts, Text, Filters, Arrows and more to make them more meaningful. The built-in organizer lets you manage your files smartly and also lets you share your work instantly via YouTube, Flickr, FTP, SFTP and Mail.
