Boom 1.x – An Important Message For All Users

July 17th, 2015 / by Marketing Team

Boom 1.x announcement

There comes a time when we all have to make tough decisions. After careful deliberation, we’ve decided to cease the maintenance and support of Boom 1.x. in a phased manner. Fret not though, this is a slow process that will continue until mid-2016 and this doesn’t mean your Boom 1.x will stop working. The app will continue to be compatible with OS X 10.8, 10.9, 10.10 and 10.11 (when it releases). The bottom-line is that with technology changing everyday, it becomes impossible to support an app that simply wasn’t built to take advantage of the advanced frameworks in use today. That is why, with the release of Yosemite last year, we built Boom 2 from the ground up.

Boom 1.x was first released in Jan 2011, later going on to win the Macworld Best Of Show 2011. It was a groundbreaking app, receiving widespread praise for its minimalism and functionality. Over the years, the app also kept itself abreast with all the new technologies that kept finding its way into every major Mac OS X release since then. Even after Boom 2 came out, we couldn’t simply abandon it. Boom 1.x was updated to support Yosemite and we’re going one step further by adding El Capitan support when the OS officially releases.

Yes, Boom 1.x will receive a final compatibility update when the new OS X version releases later this year. But it doesn’t end there. We will continue to offer support until July 2016. We wanted to make this announcement in a delicate and responsible way as we value each and every one of you. By the beginning of next year, Boom 1.x will complete 5 whole years of brilliant Mac audio and we hope you understand where we’re coming from.

Boom 2, on the other hand, is a fresh new take on Mac acoustics and comes with more features and personalization options. It also takes advantage of the goodies that Yosemite has to offer and hence works only on 10.10 and later. It is a new app that is separate from Boom 1.x and is a paid upgrade. Again, it wasn’t easy making this decision, but we believe the time and effort put into carving this beautiful app can be seen all over. As an incentive to our users, we’ve had an easy upgrade option since Boom 2’s release for those willing to switch. This entails a direct 50% discount and is applicable to both, Mac App Store and our Webstore customers. You can read more about Boom 2 to see how awesome it is! (UPDATE: The discounted price is $9.99. The retail price of Boom 2 is $14.99 on our Webstore and we’re also including the special in-app Audio Effects pack when you upgrade ($4.99). Hence the total price is $19.98 and discounted price for Boom 1.x users is $9.99.)

Boom 1.x’s journey has been a blast so far. We couldn’t have done it without you people and are thankful for the continued patronage. Boom 2 is the next stage in Boom’s evolution and we’d love for you to be a part of it. If you haven’t given it a spin yet, check out the free trial now! Happy Boomin’!

Boom v1 has already been updated to support El Capitan. If you’re still facing issues, please mail us at boom@globaldelight.com and we’ll help you out.

  • Friend of the Earth

I had Boom 1.0 which was working perfectly. When I upgraded to El Capitan it says there are missing parts in the installation. Boom 2.0 shows 19.99 in the App store

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

Hello there. We’d love to help out. Could you please mail us at boom@globaldelight.com so that we can resolve it? Thanks.

  • Bob

I upgraded to Boom 2 when I purchased a new Mac last year.

My old Mac can only run OSX 10.7.5. So I have Boom 1.5.1 installed.

Question 1: What is the latest version of Boom 1 for OSX 10.7.5 and how do I install it?
Question 2: If I need to re-install Boom 1 on my old mac is there a stand alone installer? I believe I originally downloaded from app store, so no serial number.

I plan on using my old mac for various media applications, and would hate to loose Boom completely if I have to reformat or replace my hard drive.

I tried finding this info online so as not to bother you, but almost everything just points to Boom 2. Maybe a legacy FAQ page for Boom 1 with this basic info?

    Thanks for a great product.

Hello Bob. Could you please get in touch with the support team at boom@globaldelight.com? Thanks.

  • Leah

Hi! I just reformatted my mac and my boom app was gone. i could not reinstall it without buying the app again…why is that so? If i choose Boom 2, it will also show me the normal price, not the discounted price for upgrade.
    Please help.

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

      Hello Leah,

If you’ve previously purchased Boom 2, you only need to download & reinstall Boom 2 and proceed to simply enter your registration key without needing to purchase again. Apologies for the inconvenience.

      • Leah

No, I have not purchased Boom 2. It was the first edition that I purchased and can’t install it anymore coz it’s not available.

  • Jay

Hello. I just tried to upgrade to 1.9.5 and I get an error message that says Boom is damaged and to delete it and redownload it from the app store. There is NO option to redownload it. Just OPEN and nothing relative in the pull down menu. I’m using 10.10.5. Thanks.

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

      Hello Jay,

We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact us at boom@globaldelight.com and we’ll help out. Thanks.

      • Jay

BOOM 1.9.5 appears to be working. Instead of deleting I moved it out of the apps folder. Restarted the Mac. Double-clicked on the app (now on the desktop) and it started up. Moved BOOM back into the apps folder. Thanks.

  • Jack Molloy

I have been using boom since 2012, and I am still TRYING to use boom 1, however every time i have updated my OS on my mac i have had to reinstall the program, which was fine when it was still free, however since it has become paid, it is unacceptable that i am unable to keep the program on my computer. Since it seems to not exist on the appstore anymore, If I upgrade to a later OS (El Capitan) It seems like all I am going to receive is more problems. Also you are not addressing major problems with boom, for example I have to install boom audio component every time i open the program. This is a disgraceful lack of effort, even if you are trying to push your new product, which, by the way, is wildly overpriced considering the only discernible differences between Boom 1 and 2 is the GUI and making more efficient by designing it for later OS’s, which I doubt is even an improvement given you haven’t been trying to decrease the CPU usage for the last few years. This doesn’t seem to instil any type of confidence for a current customer, that paying for a new product will be less hassle. Your comparison of versions also does not display anything other than the fact that you didn’t care about Boom 1 and that Boom 2 is simply a new GUI and some optimisation upgrades. I am sorry but for more than $20AUD I would need to be experiencing the sense of hearing for the first time from your product. You have lost a loyal customer due to your lack of care.

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

      Hello Jack,

We really appreciate you writing to us and would love to answer your questions.

First up, upgrading the OS may have required a re-install (especially with Yosemite and El Capitan) due to fundamental changes that Apple made under the hood. Also, the issue you’re facing with respect to re-installing the audio component is known and was exclusive for those who purchased the app from the Mac App Store. We did issue a fix for this in the latest update (v1.9.5), but had to temporarily take it down due to issues. Rest assured, we are going to come out with the update real soon that takes care of this.

Boom 2 is a new app that’s been built from the ground up to take advantage of the latest technologies present in Yosemite and later. The differences between the versions may not be apparent immediately due to the majority of them being under-the-hood improvements, it is a huge step up from Boom 1.x. In addition to this, we’re still supporting Boom 1.x and are making it compatible even with El Capitan as we value every user.

Finally, as a current Boom 1.x customer, you are eligible for the special upgrade pricing which is much lower than the full price.

  • Jourdain Best

Boom 1 stopped working. I purchased from Mac App Store. I have to re-download the app but it’s not in the app store.

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

Hello there. There were some technical issues with the app and it is temporarily down. We will be re-uploading it soon and you may then download it from the Mac App Store.

      • StevenCee

You’ve been saying it will be re-uploaded “very soon” now, for almost three weeks. How soon do you think it will be ready? Without Boom, I can hardly hear anything on my iMac, thanks!

        • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

          Hello Steve,

We understand and apologize for the inconvenience caused. It should be out soon. Thanks.

          • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

The update did come out and was there for quite some time. However, we had to remove Boom 1.x from the App Store due to it being a legacy product now.

  • Lisa Holmes

Boom 1 stopped working for me too. Where do I find the upgrade link? I can’t upgrade from within the app since the app won’t open. I get the same “bad parts” message that others have.

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

Hello Lisa. Apologies for the inconvenience. Have you purchased your app from our Webstore or the Mac App Store?

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store, we’re coming out with an update soon that should resolve it. If purchased from our store, please mail us at boom@globaldelight.com and we’ll help out. Thanks.

      Happy Boomin’!

  • Gatts

I’m thinking about purchasing it, the trial was great.
but i have an question about the 2 user limit.
does it mean 2 users can use it or i can install to 2 macbooks.
could you give more info about it.

I have one work and personal macbooks so i would like to use it on both, but what happens when for example i bought a new mac can i use it on that as well.

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

      Hello there,

The license is valid for 2 user accounts. What this means is that you can install the app on two different accounts which can also mean 2 different Macs or two different user accounts in one Mac. So yes, you can install Boom 2 on your personal Mac as well as your work Mac. If you buy a new Mac, you can unregister Boom 2 from either one of your current Macs before registering it on your new Mac.

  • せんりゃくん

Boom 1 won’t open on my mac, it says: “Incomplete installation: Missing some parts. Bad landing. Please reinstall.”
How am I gonna reinstall it if it’s not available anymore. I paid for it. :(

      Happy Boomin’!

  • Luis Cotinguiba

I don’t care if you built a new version of the app that I don’t need. I just want my Boom 1 working again. We all have paid for having Boom 1 so don’t try to deceive us with this stupid discourse of Boom 2, trying to convince us to spend more money for buying a product that we already have. Update our app to be compatible with El Capitan or you’ll have to deal with the law.

    • Marketing Team

      Hello Luis,

The El Capitan update is out. Please install it. Thanks.

  • Joshua Staker

Yup, upgraded to El Capitan and Boom 1 no longer works. So much for the “continued support until 2016.” No way am I shelling out $20 for a program that does essentially the same thing, a few new features aside. For this situation many companies at least have an upgrade program. I purchased Boom 1 for $10 only a few months ago for crying out loud.

    • Marketing Team

      Hello Joshua,

The El Capitan update for Boom 1.x will be out real soon and it should take care of the issues you’re facing. Please bear with us in the meantime. Thanks.

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

Hi, the update is now out. Please update. Thanks.

  • deano7000

I just needed to make my 11″ macbook louder. It’s been working fine for year or more, but I’ve upgraded to El Capitan and now I get prompted about some new product that I don’t care about.

    • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

      Hello Dean,

You can continue using Boom 1.x on as it supports El Capitan too :)

      • deano7000

        Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, every time I start it up, I get a dialog with a “sad mac” face on it, which says “A tip Before you start Booming again. Hey, it appears that the Boom Audio component needs an update too”.

When I click on the “Know more here” button, I go to this webpage: http://www.globaldelight.com/boom/install-boom-device.php?type=update&deviceVerison=1.4&utm_source=Boom1xMAS&utm_medium=applink&utm_term=OSX-10.11&utm_content=version-1.9.5-Update&utm_campaign=201510_AppAudioComponent

This prompts me to upgrade. If I don’t want to upgrade there’s a “download” button. This lets me download BoomDevice.zip, to get the installer package which lets me use Boom. I need to run this installer package *every* time I restart the computer.

So, the product I’ve purchased (Boom 1.x) still works, but I seem to have to run the installer package every time I restart.

        • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

          Hello,

You’ll need to update your copy of Boom. Please update to v1.9.5 from within the app. Once updated, you’ll need to download the audio component just one more time and then you’re good to go :)

          • deano7000

Thanks for your assistance. That final upgrade worked.

          • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

            Happy Boomin’!

  • Salvador Urrutia

I really don´t get it, I had so much respect for the people who came up with such a good app, and now we have to “repay” them for using the very same app that we already paid for in the past, because an upgrade to El Capitan, in my mind that tells me that I´m beeing robbed by the very same people who I purchased a great app from, without knowing that I would be asked to pay them again in the future if I wanted to continue using the very same app. I still think the app is great, but IMO the people behind it are a bunch of scammers!!! Shame on you!

    • Marketing Team

      Hello,

Thank you very much, I´m sorry for my post, but the fix It´s been kind of slow. First you said we had to buy the new app because the one we bought would no longer be supported, and then you said there is a fix, you released it, but now you´re working on it. Thanks again.

Boom is not working on El Capitain. I have reinstalled the “Boom Device Installer” (Sept 22, 2014) multiple times but boom is not working. I don’t want new functionality. I just want the ability to boost my volume past the maximum – which is what I paid $8.99 for!

        • http://www.globaldelight.com Global Delight

          Hello there,

Have you installed the latest v1.9.5 update? Once updated, you’ll need to download the additional audio component one last time and it should work properly. If you still face issues, please mail us at boom@globaldelight.com and we’ll help out. Thanks.

  • Neil Boardman

What a load of horse shit, there comes a time when you as a company decide to have your customers forced into buying an identical product in its core functionality. My Boom 1 has just stooped working since upgrading to El Capitan.

    • Marketing Team

      Hello Neil,

We’re coming out with an update for Boom 1.x that should make it work properly on El Capitan. Apologies for the inconvenience.

      Hello Neil,

First up, apologies for the inconvenience. The Boom 1.x update is out. Please download it for El Capitan compatibility. Thanks.

  • J Kim

Give my money back OR offer the downloads for BOOM 1.

    • Marketing Team

      Hello Kim,

      We don’t quite understand

  • J Kim

This is ridiculous. I purchased two Boom 1’s and now it suddenly stopped working. Seriously, I can’t even download it again because I didn’t purchase from the app store. Are you seriously trying to have your customers buy two products that are virtually identical in terms of its functionality?

I don’t need all the extra stuff that comes with Boom 2. Please at least honor the purchase your customers made for Boom 1 by making downloads possible. Deliberately removing all the download links (when many people bought the app from the site not from the app store) is seriously not an honest business practice.

    • Marketing Team

Boom 1 dissapeared from my “purchased” list. How do I get this final update?

I am fed up to pay each time i make the mistake to upgrade. Offert one upgrade to your customers !

  • Jeremy

Can’t support it forever. Nothing wrong with phasing it out. Boom is awesome and well worth paying to upgrade to. I’ve been using it for several years now and it’s one of my must have apps, along with Popclip, Bartender, and iStat Menus.

      Thanks, Jeremy!
