Boom v1.2 Update:

August 18th, 2011

boom

Boom users are going to love this one! We have just released v1.2 of Boom in which we have primarily gone into bug-fix mode. We were planning on a few more enhancements, but a few unlucky users have been facing a few issues, which greatly hampered their Booming experience. So we quickly switched gears and fixed most of these issues in this update. You guys definitely keep us on our toes ;) Following are the release notes:

☺ Original Bit Rate is maintained for the boosted file

☺ Fixed the sudden logout issue experienced by some users

☺ Fixed the bad landing error message, while installing the app

☺ A rare crash related to app conflict has been fixed

The Bit Rate issue was something totally unexpected, but thanks to a few astute users, we were able to identify the cause and fix it. Thus now all your boosted files will maintain the same bit rate as the original file. The sudden logout issue and bad landing error, was also very unique and had our team trying every possible trick on earth to regenerate them. With most of our users chipping in and helping with the beta test, we were able to provide a fix for this too.

    I sent email a few days ago but got no response. So here’s my main question. How do you increase the volume on my Mac without adding distortion? Is it possible your software can hurt my speakers?

    Please answer.

    I had the worst experience with boom that I believe that anyone had, though that remains to be proven to me. My speakers (JBL Creature Speakers) were totally disabled by Boom, to the point where I was prepared to buy another set. But after disabling Boom and removing Boom from my system completely and after several unsuccessful attempts, I was finally able to use my speakers again. I paid $4.99 for the original version and it cost me more in time and frustration. I contacted your support system a total of 9 times. Then at one point I installed and second time to remove the residual items still on my system, the result of which I was charged a second time by Kagi for Boom. Then I needed to contact Kagi with proof that I had already purchased Boom. If I am expected to pay $8.99 for something that caused me so much consternation and patience-testing getting finally rid completely of the old version, I will be very unlikely to pay that amount. My time spent was worth way more than $8.99. I just downloaded Boom 1.2, because when it DID work properly, it was Awesome! Everything/everyone deserves a second chance in my book. If this new version I can promise you WILL hear from me! I am going to email this comment directly to Vaishnavi as well, so it is imprinted for Global Delight’s memory for posterity.

    I neglected the word ‘fail’s in the next to last sentence. It should have read, If this new version FAILS, I cam promise you WILL hear from me!

    I also sent an email to Support (on 10 Aug) and was ignored;

    I think that I have identified a bug in Boom when used on a Macbook Air running Lion. With Boom installed the new mail sound doesn’t work except sometimes on the first occasion after a reboot. Once I uninstalled it the sound works ok.

    Hi all,

    We apologize if we were unable to respond to your queries on time. Sometimes it so happens that we receive a lot of mails, involve in other product related activities, that we may miss a few mails. That being said, we try our best to handle all your mails as quickly as possibly. All of you are extremely important to us. The Support Team has been notified of the same, and they shall get in touch soon regarding your queries.

    @Norman: We are using our proprietary algorithm to increase the volume on a Mac without causing any problems to the speakers. Use the volume boost option only to the required level so as to enjoy the increased volume right on your Mac.

    @Donna: You can keep mailing us or posting your feedback on our blog/forums and we would consider all of them before we plan the next updates. While it might be possible that we will not be able to fix all the defects right at the moment we receive it from you, but we would definitely look into each of them and if required ask for more information to regenerate.

    @John: Hey John, we received your email with only the part where it mentioned the new version of Boom is booming great on your new Macbook Air with Lion installed on it :) Thanks for posting the bug details. Our support would get in touch with you for more details.

    Everytime I login I get the “do you want to update to Boom 1.2″ window. The problem is, I already did update. How do I make the window stop pestering me?

    @Mike Fabbro That’s strange. Could you please check the current version of your copy of Boom in the ‘About’ section in the Settings?

    I contacted you a couple of times with my problem of a “stutter” (noticeable drop in sound) about every 7 seconds when listening to boom-enhanced sound (e.g. from iTunes) on my Thunderbolt-connected Apple Cinema Display.

    Boom 1.2 (as Boom 1.1 before) has NOT solved the problem.

    Hello, I’ve got a problem with Boom 1.2 on my mac pro.
    After installation, everything works fine. But after reboot there is no Boom icon in menu bar! My boosted volume and equalizer still works in background.
    Only way for me to restore icon is to reinstall application :(
    I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, thank you.

    Thank you for help. Now I have Lion 10.7.2 and Boom works superb!
    But there is question, why Boom 1.2 use all the some % of CPU resources?

    When Boom volume is on then is about 7%, when only equalizer is on, then about 12%. When together are on, then ~16% of CPU. Is this OK?

    @Tom
    Sorry for spam, but just figured out what was wrong. I had wrong kexts for audio in my hackint0sh. As i was using P5Q-E with ADI AD2000B 8-channel HD Audio with VooDooHDA, this makes cracks in sound and used CPU resources.
    Now have proper kexts for A2000B and Boom is using about 3-3.5% of CPU :)
    Regards, Tom.
